Standard charges for a user interface designer?

I’ve advertised myself as an unqualified artist doing cheap illustrations such as logos, concept art, anything, and one client seems keen on hiring me to do user interface design for his software.

However, I have absolutely no idea what the standard charges for this would be, and would like to know if I’m going to try to take it on? If it helps, I need an estimate in AUD and I also would rather not charge hourly.

Thanks!

That depends entirely on how many interfaces you will have to design. Being a programmer, I’ve never been payed for just interface design, but if I were to hire someone to do that part for me I would probably charge them somewhere from $ 200 – $ 500 per interface, again depending on the complexity of the interface, and assuming you were going to actually work with the IDE and not just draw a pretty picture of what it should look like, in that case, id prolly give you $ 10 and whatever’s in my pocket.
